A muster roll ledger from 1861 listing the names, ranks, and ages of personnel in various Kentucky Union volunteer regiments during the Civil War. Additional information contained in the roll includes when the individual joined, where they joined, who enrolled them, and for how long. Also in the ledger account for each person are remarks on residence, reassignments, promotions, desertions, location and kind of injury, and location and cause of death.

Historical note: In 1860 the Kentucky Militia was replaced by the Kentucky State Guard. During the Civil War the State Guard suffered from the same divided loyalties which were indicative of Kentucky as a whole. It was reestablished in 1878, with the primary focus on controlling civil disturbances including feuds, riots, strikes, and lynchings. In 1912 the State Guard became the Kentucky National Guard.
